The Origin Story of Mosaic Atelier: A Tale of Artistry and Friendship

In the world of luxury textiles, where opulence meets craftsmanship and cultural heritage intertwines with artistry, there exists a unique company that epitomizes these ideals: Mosaic Atelier. Founded by Anna-Kate Bertram and Samantha Moritz, Mosaic Atelier aims to be a beacon of sophistication and sustainability in the realm of home decor. With their tagline, "Timeless Luxury, Woven Responsibly," this luxury textile company has a story deeply rooted in friendship, passion, and a commitment to preserving the art of rug-making from Anna-Kate's beloved homeland, Turkey.

Anna-Kate Bertram's journey began in the enchanting city of Antalya, Turkey, where she spent her formative years. As she grew into adulthood, she developed a profound appreciation for the intricate beauty of Turkish rugs and the vibrant cultural tapestry they represent. Her childhood experiences laid the foundation for her fascination with the global experience, ultimately leading her to explore over 40 countries while working as a stewardess on luxury super yachts and during her personal travels. Following her time at a prestigious Big 4 consulting firm and her involvement in startups in both Germany and the United States, Anna-Kate decided to pursue her passion wholeheartedly. It was during this phase that she joined forces with her former colleague and close friend, Samantha Moritz.

Samantha Moritz, a versatile professional skilled in strategy, design, and leadership, brought her expertise to the table. With dual BS degrees in Psychology and Legal Studies, along with certifications in Integrative Nutrition and Yoga instruction, Samantha possessed the perfect blend of skills to complement Anna-Kate's vision. Originally from Maryland, Samantha, along with her family, recently moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, where she fell in love with the stunning hiking trails and the opportunity to spend quality time with her loved ones.

The genesis of Mosaic Atelier can be traced back to Samantha's quest for a unique rug to adorn her dining room. Frustrated by the unoriginal, machine-made carpets that flooded the market at exorbitant prices, she turned to Anna-Kate for advice. Anna-Kate, drawing from her deep connections in Turkey, suggested that Samantha could find authentic, handcrafted rugs with rich histories and meaningful stories behind them. These rugs, often custom-made for dowries, wedding gifts, or the birth of a child, were true investments that would appreciate over time. Mosaic Atelier's founders had access to true artisans who could create and preserve these magnificent pieces.

The Turkish and Oriental hand-made rug business is not just about beautiful designs and luxurious materials; it's a tradition steeped in history and symbolism. The motifs and symbols adorning these rugs are imbued with meaning - fertility, peace, happiness, and protection, to name a few. Each rug tells a story, connecting generations and cultures through their threads.

Mosaic Atelier boasts a curated collection of three distinct types of rugs:

Modern Rugs: These rugs, no older than 40 years, show little to no signs of wear. They are often crafted as wedding gifts or dowries and have rarely been used on the floor.

Vintage Rugs: Aged between 40 and 70 years, vintage rugs may exhibit minor signs of wear, such as slight discoloration from sunlight or variations in thickness. Nevertheless, many of them look new due to their high-quality craftsmanship.

Antique Rugs: Antique rugs in the collection are over 70 years old, showcasing excellent condition, which speaks volumes about the quality of materials, natural dyes, and workmanship. Any minor signs of wear have been meticulously restored, ensuring their timeless beauty.

One of the standout offerings from Mosaic Atelier is their Concierge Service, a personalized experience where Anna-Kate and Samantha collaborate with their deep connections with rug experts in Turkey and beyond to find the perfect rug, rich in meaning and within the desired price range. This service isn't just about acquiring a rug; it's about connecting with heritage and storytelling. Consider Janan, a rug in their collection, perfect for a children's room. The word "Janan" is an affectionate term for children or loved ones, meaning "dear one" or "beloved" in Pashto. This unique piece hails from Afghanistan, known for its plush, high-quality wool and intricate craftsmanship. Made with all-natural dyes, Janan's design features playful animals and toys, making it the perfect addition to a child's room or nursery.

Mosaic Atelier's mission transcends mere commerce; it's a heartfelt commitment to preserving cultural heritage and enriching homes with elegance and tradition. At its core, the company envisions a world where the threads of cultures and artistry seamlessly converge, weaving together stories and traditions through exquisite textiles and antique treasures. Their mission is to curate an exclusive collection of premium textiles and one-of-a-kind objects that embody masterful craftsmanship, transcendent beauty, and rich histories.

In a world where mass production often overshadows craftsmanship, Mosaic Atelier stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of handcrafted luxury. With Anna-Kate and Samantha at the helm, this luxury textile company brings a touch of timeless elegance to homes around the world while preserving the age-old art of rug-making. Mosaic Atelier invites you to join them on a journey of discovery, where every rug is not just a piece of decor but a living testament to culture, tradition, and the enduring beauty of the human touch.
